Aluminium helps protect coffee from oxygen, light, and moisture, supporting freshness and quality. Nespresso capsules are made using atleast 80% recycled content*.
Made to recycle
Aluminium capsules are easy to recycle with small metals or at Nespresso Boutiques. Returning capsules through the right channels supports material recovery after use.
Advance Circularity
“Advance Circularity” is a Positive Cup priority. Nespresso’s goal is a 60% global aluminium capsule recycling rate by 2030.

Nespresso capsules are made from aluminium to help protect coffee from oxygen, light, and moisture, supporting freshness and quality in every cup. Aluminium is also a valuable material that can be recycled and used again, which supports a circular approach when capsules are collected through the right channels.

In Finland, Nespresso focuses on recycling capsules returned by customers. Separate capsules from other household waste and recycle them with small metals. Alternatively, you can bring your capsules to the nearest Nespresso Boutique.
What happens after recycling
After capsules are collected, materials can be separated and recovered. Aluminium can be transformed into new products, and coffee grounds can also be repurposed depending on local solutions. Nespresso has built “second life” examples such as pens, bicycles, and other products from recycled aluminium. Nespresso also uses atleast 80% recycled aluminium in Nespresso capsules.
The Positive Cup and “Advance Circularity”
Advance Circularity is one of the priorities within The Positive Cup, Nespresso’s sustainability strategy. Nespresso’s stated goal is a 60% global aluminium capsule recycling rate by 2030.
In the 2024 progress update, Nespresso reports an estimated global recycling rate of 35% and an estimated capsule collection capacity of 99% (global).
